We connect to the receiving mail server (MX) via Port 25 and initiate an SMTP handshake. We ask the server if the user exists. As soon as the server responds with a "Yes" or "No", we drop the connection before an actual email is ever transmitted.
A catch-all domain is configured to accept ALL incoming emails, even if the specific username does not exist. We flag these as "Risky" because while they don’t bounce immediately, they often silently drop emails, hurting your engagement metrics.
